Nuclear medicine in Tasmania

Tasmania has 5 practices accredited for nuclear medicine, spread over four towns and suburbs.

Outside the capital there are two. That leaves large parts of Tasmania more than an hour from the nearest one, which is what the town pages below are for.

Nuclear medicine uses a small amount of a radioactive tracer, so it needs a licensed department rather than a general imaging room.

Four towns in Tasmania have imaging of their own but no nuclear medicine. Each of those has a page giving the nearest machine and the distance from that town — that is the number that decides whether the scan happens.

The towns and suburbs with nuclear medicine include Hobart, Lenah Valley, Burnie and Launceston.

The heaviest concentrations are Hobart (two practices), Lenah Valley (one practice), Burnie (one practice) and Launceston (one practice). Outside those, most towns with nuclear medicine have exactly one practice, which is worth knowing when you are weighing a wait against a drive.
