Medical imaging in Queensland

Queensland has 419 accredited imaging practices that a referred patient can attend, in 246 towns and suburbs.

By scan: 386 sites for x-ray, 376 sites for ultrasound, 308 sites for CT, 140 sites for MRI, 82 sites for nuclear medicine and 37 sites for PET.

91 of the 140 MRI practices in Queensland are on the Australian Government's Medicare-eligible MRI list, which means 49 practices run an accredited MRI that may not attract a rebate. That gap is the single most useful thing to check before an MRI here.

The thinnest coverage in Queensland is PET and nuclear medicine.

We hold five districts in Queensland with at least two towns that have their own imaging, and 709 towns with a page of their own. The largest by number of practices are Brisbane Central Business District, New Farm, Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley and Spring Hill.

If your town is not listed, start with the district it sits in — every town page gives the nearest machine for the scans that town does not have, measured from that town rather than from the capital.

scanfinder shows you where imaging is available. Your doctor decides which scan you need — you'll need a referral for all of these.
