Medical imaging in the Gold Coast, QLD

There are seven accredited imaging practices across 63 towns in the Gold Coast.

Across the region that is x-ray at 7 sites, ultrasound at 7 sites, CT at 6 sites, MRI at 4 sites and nuclear medicine at 2 sites.

The scarcest scans here are nuclear medicine — if your referral is for one of those, check the town page before you drive, because the nearest machine may be in a different town from the rest of your care.

Two practices in the Gold Coast appear on the Government's Medicare-eligible MRI list, so a Medicare rebate is possible for an MRI there. Any other MRI unit in the region is accredited but not on that list.

The best-served town here is Pimpama, with two practices. Queensland X-Ray Helensvale is accredited for x-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI; Qscan Hope Island covers x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine; South Coast Radiology Oxenford runs x-ray, ultrasound and CT.

They are spread through Helensvale, Hope Island, Oxenford, Pimpama, Tamborine Mountain and Upper Coomera.

Nuclear medicine uses a small amount of a radioactive tracer, so it needs a licensed department rather than a general imaging room.

Each town below has its own page, with the distances measured from there rather than from the middle of the district.

scanfinder shows you where imaging is available. Your doctor decides which scan you need — you'll need a referral for all of these.
