Nuclear medicine in New South Wales

New South Wales has 103 practices accredited for nuclear medicine, spread over 74 towns and suburbs.

Outside the capital there are 42. That leaves large parts of New South Wales more than an hour from the nearest one, which is what the town pages below are for.

Nuclear medicine uses a small amount of a radioactive tracer, so it needs a licensed department rather than a general imaging room.

67 towns in New South Wales have imaging of their own but no nuclear medicine. Each of those has a page giving the nearest machine and the distance from that town — that is the number that decides whether the scan happens.

The towns and suburbs with nuclear medicine include Westmead, Wollongong, Albury, Dubbo, Gosford, Randwick, Newtown and Bankstown.

The heaviest concentrations are Westmead (four practices), Wollongong (four practices), Albury (three practices), Dubbo (three practices) and Gosford (three practices). Outside those, most towns with nuclear medicine have exactly one practice, which is worth knowing when you are weighing a wait against a drive.
