MRI in New South Wales

There are 204 MRI practices in New South Wales, across 122 towns and suburbs.

84 sit beyond the capital's ring. That leaves large parts of New South Wales more than an hour from the nearest one, which is what the town pages below are for.

An MRI uses a magnetic field rather than x-rays, and the machines are expensive, so far fewer places have one.

142 of the 204 are on the Government's Medicare-eligible MRI list (last updated 17 February 2026). The remaining 62 hold MRI accreditation without being on that list, and a scan at one of them may attract no rebate at all.

The heaviest concentrations are Campbelltown (five practices), Kogarah (five practices), Liverpool (five practices), Albury (four practices) and Westmead (four practices). Outside those, most towns with MRI have exactly one practice, which is worth knowing when you are weighing a wait against a drive.
