Nuclear medicine in Victoria

Victoria has 63 practices accredited for nuclear medicine, spread over 42 towns and suburbs.

Outside the capital there are 15. That leaves large parts of Victoria more than an hour from the nearest one, which is what the town pages below are for.

Nuclear medicine uses a small amount of a radioactive tracer, so it needs a licensed department rather than a general imaging room.

48 towns in Victoria have imaging of their own but no nuclear medicine. Each of those has a page giving the nearest machine and the distance from that town — that is the number that decides whether the scan happens.

The towns and suburbs with nuclear medicine include Epping, Berwick, St Albans, Ballarat, Frankston, Mornington, Geelong and Melbourne.

The heaviest concentrations are Epping (four practices), Berwick (three practices), St Albans (three practices), Ballarat (two practices) and Frankston (two practices). Outside those, most towns with nuclear medicine have exactly one practice, which is worth knowing when you are weighing a wait against a drive.
