About Scanfinder

The scan your doctor asked for should not fall through the cracks because finding a clinic was too hard. That is why Scanfinder exists.

Built and maintained by a team of Australian junior doctors. We see patients leave hospital with a referral and a deadline, then discover they still have to work out which clinic offers the scan, how far away it is and what it may cost. That is a lot of system knowledge to expect from someone who may already be frightened or unwell.

We built the tool we wanted to hand them: enter a town, choose the scans on the referral, and get a practical list of places to call. When a regional town has no scanner, the page gives the nearest options and the distance instead of pretending otherwise.

Today the directory covers 4,056 imaging sites, 1,863 of them places a referred patient can attend, 411 on the Medicare-eligible MRI list. We combine the Medicare accreditation register with government MRI and PET lists, public directories and provider-published contact details. The source and uncertainty stay attached to the claim.

Results put practical options first: what each clinic offers, how far away it is and how to contact it.
